About the orchestra

Rhondda Symphony Orchestra.jpg

The Rhondda Symphony Orchestra, formed in 1968, draws musicians from across South Wales. We have a playing strength of over 60, and our players include a whole range of enthusiastic amateurs, school children and students, many music teachers, and some of the original orchestra members.

We perform between 4 and 6 concerts annually in venues across Rhondda Cynon Taf, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. We have a wide-ranging repertoire, from classical through to 21st century, from the well-known and popular classics to the seldom-played and even first performances of new pieces. We like to perform with local young soloists, including winners of our Young Musician of the Valleys competition. Also, biennially we accompany the ‘Voices for Hospices’ performances at venues throughout the Valleys, and enjoy performing with local choirs.

We rehearse every Thursday evening during term-time at Y Pant Comprehensive School, Pontyclun. We welcome new players, Grade 7 or above, and often have vacancies. So if you would like to join, please contact us via this website.

If you are interested in joining the orchestra please use the contact form or email rhonddasymph@yahoo.co.uk
